Banana Bend in 1969
By 1969, Banana Bend and Highland Shores were starting to be developed. The major roads were all in place and
quite a few houses were built in the western end of the subdivision. While Sand dredging and mining was continueing
at Parker's Hole, increaseing the size of the lagoon at a steady pace, Open Pit sand mining had not begun and the areas
around Banana Bend were thick forests. The river had become a playground for many of Houston's affluent citizens.
The river's beautiful white sandy beaches and great water was a magnet to watersport enthusiasts.
In the lower left corner, Exxon's wastewater outfall can be seen.
