Hello friends! I'm sending this mass mailing in order to reach some of you
that I haven't been in touch with for a while as well as those I have. Many of you live in areas of the country I haven't visited in quite a while but,
rest assured, I'll get there again one of these days. I'm about to drive up to Cleveland Ohio to showcase at the North American
Folk Alliance. Ah, Cleveland in the winter! Hope to visit the Rock and Roll
Hall of Fame while there. Also it's a great and rare opportunity to hear a
bunch of wonderful music and visit with all my songwriting friends. This past year has been busy as usual. Finished a new CD project with my old
compatriot Shake Russell entitled "Love's Bright Campaign". We've been performing all over Texas several times each month to promote it.
Consequently my solo efforts have been few and far between. That is about to
change with the release of my new CD tentatively titled "Harry Truman Built a Road". It's taken a while to follow up the last one, "Miracle Mile", but what
a blast it's been to work with my producers, Richard McLaurin and Mac Linebaugh as well as an incredible lineup of players and singers.
That brings us back to Folk Alliance. I have four scheduled showcases and will be roaming around till all hours looking for jam sessions to participate
in.
Come out and say howdy.
About Dana......
With the passion of a poet and the power of a rocker,
Dana Cooper has been thrilling listeners for over
two decades. His highly original lyrics, skillful guitar work and evocative vocals have earned him a devoted following with fans and critics alike. Vic Garbarine,
writer for Playboy and Guitar World, described Cooper as "literally the best singer-songwriter to
emerge from Nashville in over a decade ..
His heartfelt but sophisticated lyrics aim to reconcile the heart and mind in everyday life. His
songs of melody is unique and he has a voice that
could melt ice caps." Playboy Guitar World
Originally from Independence, Missouri, Dana was playing his own music in Kansas City clubs by the age of 16. After dropping out of college and
leaving behind an art scholarship, he headed to Los Angeles. Elektra Records released his self titled debut solo album featuring such luminary
players as Russ Kunkel, Leland Sklar, Jim Horn and Al Perkins. Dana later moved to Texas in 1978 to join forces with longtime
friend Shake Russell. The Shake Russell/Dana Cooper Band recorded three highly successful folk-rock albums, one of which was released by MCA.
The duo became one of the most successful acts throughout Texas and the Southwest and appeared on
Austin City Limits. Along with Shake Russell, John Vandiver, Michael Marcolier, and a host of
other local Folk talent, Dana was a driving force in the Texas Folk Scene.
By 1983, Dana had decided to explore new artistic styles and formed a new band called
Dana Cooper's DC3. This high
energy rock band released two independent albums which garnered airplay on college radio stations throughout the US and Canada. In 1988 Dana
returned to his roots, performing solo and released three self produced acoustic cassettes. 1992 saw the release of his first independent CD, titled
Stone by Stone. This album opened the door to a wider variety of audiences, including alternative radio and public radio. In 1994, Cooper's
Thrill of Love (recorded with Shake Russell and Jack Saunders) won "Album of the Year" in the
Houston Press/KLOL Music Awards. It was
followed by his long-awaited live acoustic CD, Roughly Speaking.
Cooper recently won "Best Songwriter in Houston" was nominated
"Best Male Vocalist" by the Kerville Music Foundation and was also nominated for their "Hall of Fame" Several of Dana's songs have been recorded by other top notch artists, such as
Maura O'Connell, Trout Fishing in America, Rex Foster and Christine Albert. Dana has also spent time co--writing with fellow Compass Records
artists Pierce Pettis, who said, "Dana Cooper is one of my all time favorite singer-songwriters. Listening to him reminds me why I wanted to do this
in the first place. He is as good as it gets."
Miracle Mile is Dana's stunning new release and his first album on Compass Records. Produced by Josh
Leo, the album includes guest appearances
by Lyle Lovett, Maura O'Connell and George Marinelli (Bruce Hornsby, Bonnie Raitt). This

life right now." Dana will be touring extensively in support of Miracle Mile Miracle Mile
